Certificate standards

Rules governing scope, issue, use and correction

The certificate is the conclusion of an approved learning process, not a substitute for that process or a broader claim than the evidence supports.

Required information

A certificate records the holder, exact programme title, issue date, unique reference, certificate category, authorised issuer and verification route. Assessed certificates also correspond to an approved assessment standard.

Basis of issue

Issue requires the identity, attendance, completion and assessment conditions stated for the relevant programme. Fees do not replace a missing condition, and a certificate is not issued while a material academic-integrity matter remains unresolved.

Status statement

EAB certificates are proprietary records of professional learning. They are not Ofqual-regulated qualifications, academic degrees, professional licences or authorisation to undertake a regulated activity.

Permitted use

Holders may describe the certificate accurately using its complete title and issuer. They must not abbreviate or present it in a way that creates confusion with a protected professional designation, regulated qualification or academic award.

Correction and withdrawal

EAB may correct an administrative error or withdraw a certificate obtained through identity fraud, material misrepresentation, assessment misconduct or an erroneous issue. The holder is notified and a review route is provided where appropriate.
